Ruth Marian Greer

Long-time Mariposa resident, Ruth Marian Greer, known to her friends as Marian, died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 14, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Concord.

Marian was born in Tulare on Sept. 2, 1925, and lived the first four years of her life in Lindsay. The family moved to Long Beach in 1929 and then relocated to Santa Ana where she lived most of her young adult life.

She married the love of her life, William E Greer, Jr. on June 28, 1947 and they raised their family of four children in the Los Angeles area.

They relocated from Rolling Hills to Mariposa in 1975. Together they built their beautiful retirement home where family and friends would come to enjoy the beauty and solace over the next 33 years. Sadly that home was lost in the 2008 Telegraph fire. They loved Mariposa, and over the years she remained active in the community as a member of the local Republican Women’s chapter, volunteering as a docent at the Mariposa Museum and History Center and at John C. Fremont Hospital.

She was a woman of great faith and developed many wonderful friendships in the community, through their church at the Ponderosa Basin Chapel and in her Bible studies. She remained active with gardening, sewing, and even entered some of her treasures in the Mariposa County Fair (receiving a few blue ribbons on her entries).

Two years after Bill’s passing in 2006, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Concord; and it truly was a mutual blessing to have her in their home. Marian’s sunny disposition and beautiful smile brightened up the lives of all those who knew her. She exemplified grace, dignity, had a giving heart and loved everyone. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she will be deeply missed.

Marian is survived by her four children, Randall (Jana), Gary (Lisa), Deborah, and Jenny (Brad) and by six grandchildren, and her precious dog, Ginja.

Services will be private and Marian will be buried with Bill at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
