A Mariposa man struck and killed a bicyclist this weekend

A Mariposa man struck and killed a bicyclist on Sunday, Aug. 23 about 12:30 p.m.
Wayne Harrison Ruport, 72, of Mariposa, was driving his 2000 Ford F-150 on Highway 49 North, south of French Camp Road. A 63-year-old Merced man, who has not been identified, was riding a bicycle north on the highway and was struck by Harrison’s vehicle.

Harrison fled the scene and was located at his residence on Bear Valley Road. He was determined to be driving under the influence at the time of the collision and was arrested.

The bicyclist died at the scene from injuries he received in the collision.
