Mary Frances Darcy

Mary Frances Darcy, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2015, with family by her side.

She was born June 28, 1922 to Patrick and Rose Gubbins in Whitestone, N.Y. While employed at Pan American Airways, she met and married the love of her life, Charles Darcy, in 1945. They moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1965 and to Mariposa in 1972.

Mary and Charles raised nine children: Buzz (Kathy), Rory (Paul), Kevin,

Jeanne, Tom (Trish), Cary (Larry), Liz (Jerry), Tony (Janet) and Mike (Pam).

Mary was very active in the community. She was a room mother, classroom volunteer, den mother and 4-H leader. She was one of the founding members of the Mariposa County High School Grizzly Boosters, St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild, and Mariposans for the Environment and Responsible Government. She served on the Early Childhood Education Committee, the Supervisors’ Advisory Committee and was involved in the Democratic Club. She and Charles were named Mariposa County Senior Citizens of the Year.

You could always count on seeing Mary’s smiling face as a crossing guard and teacher’s aide at Mariposa Elementary School, in the Mariposa County Chamber Visitors Center and as a poll worker on election day.

Mary is survived by her brother, Patrick, her nine children, 30 grandchildren, 30-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends who will all miss her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, Mary would have preferred any donations to be made to Manna House or John C. Fremont Friends of Hospice.

A funeral Mass will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.
