(Erik Skindrud | The GAZETTE)Mariposa's county park pool is reached via 6th Street, Stroming Road and County Park Road. (Erik Skindrud | The GAZETTE)Tuesday, June 23, 2015 - 4 p.m. - A high-pressure system is forecast to cook the county with 100-degree highs this Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said today.

Mariposa's afternoon high temperature is expected to leap from 93 degrees on Wednesday to 100 degrees on Thursday, June 25--and the following day.

The heat wave will not be hot enough to prompt the opening of the county's designated cooling centers, however. To activate the centers, temperatures need to remain hot into the evening hours.

For residents without home air-conditioning, however, county libraries at Greeley Hill, El Portal and Mariposa can provide a refuge from excessive heat.

County pools at Mariposa, Coulterville and El Portal are scheduled to be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. daily as well.
