Joseph P. Malenfant

Joseph P. Malenfant, 55, lost his courageous battle with cancer at his home in Mariposa on May 11, 2015.

Joe was born in Palo Alto to George and Grace Malenfant on August 20, 1959, and as a young child, he moved to Mariposa County with his family, settling in El Portal. He later relocated to the Midpines area, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Joe worked for Yosemite Falls Pump

Service and the National Park Service until his illness forced him to stop working. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time riding his motorcycle, and also dedicated a large portion of his free time to the youth athletics programs in Mariposa, both as a football coach and game announcer.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Malenfant. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his sister, Gay Hutchison and brother-in-law Paul; his children, Haley, Morgan, Josh, Courtney, Robert, Ryan and Sara; as well as grandchildren, Alexa, Kylee, his “Hot Shot” Elaina and Hayden, Cody and Emily; nieces, Lisa, Julie and Christy, along with many close family friends. Joe was deeply loved and will be sorely missed; his memory and legacy cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Joe’s family would like to thank their wonderful family, friends and community for their outpouring of support and comfort during this time, and will host a celebration of Joe’s life at 1 p.m. on May 30, 2015 at the El Portal Community Hall.

A Joseph P. Malenfant Memorial Scholarship fund has been established and contributions may be made to the fund in Joe’s memory at Yosemite Bank, account number 0301025177.
