(Erik Skindrud | The GAZETTE)Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - 4 p.m. - The state's CAL FIRE firefighting agency today ordered an end to outdoor residential burning in Mariposa, Madera and Merced counties.

The suspension applies to all outdoor burning of wood and landscape debris and is effective immediately.

CAL FIRE crews have responded to more wildfires at this point in the year than they normally would have, Information Officer Karen Kanawyer said.

The state agency is ready to take all measures necessary to reduce fire risk in the current, extraordinary drought year, CAL FIRE Director Ken Pimlott said.

"We must take every step possible to prevent new wildfires from starting," Pimlott said this week.
