Wildland fire raging at the base of Buckingham Mountain

Thursday, June 18, 2015 - 1:46 p.m. - At around noon today, a wildland fire was reported on Triangle Road near Carter Road, and it has quickly grown into a 40-acre inferno burning toward the toe of Buckingham Mountain.

Firefighters and mutliple resources are trying to keep the fire, now referred to as the Triangle Incident, from reaching the base of Buckingham Mountain where it could be pushed by afternoon updrafts.

Apparently, the blaze may have been caused by a dark colored SUV driving on a tire rim. The scars alongside Triangle Road could be seen traveling almost a half mile before the shredded tire left the vehicle.

Additional resources have been ordered, including two more bombers as helicopters struggle to find above-ground water sources in California's record-setting drought.

Carter Road has been evacuated and a Red Cross evacuation center is reportedly being established at the New Life Fellowship Church on Cole Road.

It is the second blaze of the day as this morning a fire completely destroyed a residence on Usona Road.

Look for more details as they become available.
