(Google Street View | CONTRIBUTED)Wednesday, May 6, 2015 - 3:15 p.m. - A 62-year-old Mariposa cyclist was struck by a motorist Triangle and Westfall roads today. The man was airlifted with major injuries, but is expected to recover.

The injured cyclist was Daniel Green, 62, of Mariposa. He suffered "several broken bones" in the incident, CHP Officer Michael Zimmer said.

Green was struck as he was pedaling north on Triangle Road past East Westfall Road. As he passed the intersection, he was hit by Darlene Prough, 78, who was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus.

The intersection is known to be dangerous, Officer Zimmer said.

"That's a bad corner," he said.

The emergency response and subsequent helicopter evacuation to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto got plenty of notice in the neighborhood, resident Tom DeVries told the GAZETTE.

"I feel hurt--and I just looked at the car," DeVries said after witnessing the accident scene. "It looked bad."

The Ford's windshield was smashed--apparently by Green's body, DeVries said.

Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the incident, the official CHP report notes.
