(Erik Skindrud | The GAZETTE)Tuesday, April 28, 2015 - 3:15 p.m. - Volunteers are making final preparations for the 10th-annual town Butterfly Festival this weekend, event chair Jeanetta Phillips said today.

More volunteers are welcome, and will be put to work directing traffic and releasing butterflies. Anyone wishing to pitch in can call Phillips at 742-4933.

For the first time this year, volunteers plan to release a total of 5,000 butterflies, the event chair said. That's 1,000 more than have been set free at previous events.

At $1 a piece, the insects aren't cheap. It takes multiple fundraisers to bring in the $5,000 it cost to buy the fluttering, orange-and-black painted ladies, Phillips explained.
