Theodore R. Strawn

Theodore Richard (Ted) Strawn, a proud veteran of two wars, passed away peacefully at his home in Cathey’s Valley on Feb. 17, 2015. He was 86 years old.

Ted was born March 5, 1928 in Coshocton, Ohio to Henry and Ethel Anne Strawn. He was the second-born of four children. His siblings were Howard Strawn, Glenwood Strawn and Peggy Strawn, who have preceded him in death.

Ted graduated from Coshocton High School in 1946, and then he immediately entered the United States Army. Ted served as an officer in the Army’s World War II war-crimes division and was stationed in Dachau, Germany. Following his service in Germany, he served as a reserve officer during the Korean War.

Ted was a 1954 graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. He began his career with the accounting firm of Clark Storey and in 1965 he opened his own CPA practice in Long Beach. He continued to practice until his retirement in 2008.

Ted was very involved in many community organizations, including the Long Beach Elks Club. Ted loved to chat with everyone and share many interesting stories with family and friends. To Ted, no one was a stranger. He especially loved to talk of memories of the military and childhood experiences with friends.

During his retirement, Ted enjoyed traveling with his wife, Martha Strawn, and working on his many projects at his beloved MT Bear Ranch.

In addition to his wife Martha, Ted is survived by three children and three step-children; Stephen Strawn, Ruth Harding, Lorree Strawn-Holmesly, Karen Dwerlkotte, Wanda Bardy and Dean Dwerlkotte; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

“We all miss you, especially your sense of humor and the twinkle in your eyes,” his family said. “We love you.”
