(Photo: Al Golub/Golub Photography)Wednesday, March 25, 2015 - 9 a.m. - Today's 164th anniversary of the discovery of Yosemite Valley by white folks is passing mostly unobserved in the county.

Past issues of the MARIPOSA GAZETTE have marked the date. An item ran on the March 25, 1937 issue's front page, for example. "On this date in 1851, Major James D. Savage (led) the Mariposa Battalion into Yosemite Valley while pursuing hostile Indians," the paper reported.

Yesterday, Yosemite National Park held an anniversary celebration to mark 125 years since the Park was established in 1890.
