Weather service: another wimpy spritz on way

Less than half an inch of rain is anticipated over the Sierra foothills through Feb. 28. (Image: NWS)Less than half an inch of rain is anticipated over the Sierra foothills through Feb. 28. (Image: NWS)Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 - 9:30 a.m. - Forecasters have downgraded this weekend's weather event, with between a quarter and a third of an inch of rain expected through Saturday night.

Snow could fall down to 3,500 feet on Saturday evening, however. Total snow accumulation may range between one and six inches, depending on elevation.

Precipitation forecasting is a dicey science, however, and National Weather Service prognoses are significantly off on occassion.

"Another round of rain and mountain snow" is due to arrive on Monday, however.
