Shipping shop perseveres through flood

(Rhonda Matthews | CONTRIBUTED)(Rhonda Matthews | CONTRIBUTED)Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 - 4:30 p.m. - Mariposa Shipping Co. has been serving customers as it cleans up following a Tuesday morning sewage spill, business owner Kathleen Leavitt said today.

Store manager Rhonda Matthews confronted a flood of fluid from the business's toilet when she opened the shop on Feb. 24.

Plant roots that broke off and became lodged in a sewer line were responsible for the backup, Mariposa Public Utilities District General Manager Mark Rowney said.

A crew will be on site to continue the cleanup on Thursday, but store staff will meet customers at the business's entrance to provide curbside service, Leavitt pledged today.
