George Lee Chase

George Lee Chase passed away at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Rose, his daughters Janet Chase-Williams (Keith) and Susan Chase-Hawksworth (David), his son Steven Chase (Kelly), his grandchildren Joseph and Chloe and his sister Joyce Barrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee “Ted” and Bernice Chase and his brother Ronald.

George was a fifth generation Mariposan—the descendent of Gold Rush pioneers. He attended Quartzburg and Hornitos elementary schools and Mariposa County High School. George worked for 30 years as a timber faller in the Sierras. An expert cement finisher and construction foreman, he built hundreds of local homes. And he worked on numerous large projects, such as the Bagby Bridge.

George passed his love of hunting, fishing and the wilderness on to his grandchildren. In retirement, he used his excellent carpentry skills to produce firstrate furniture, toys and saddle trees.

At his request, there will be no service. Donations in his memory may be made to The Patrick Swayze Pancreas Cancer Research Fund, Development Services, P.O. Box 20466, Stanford, CA 94309 or by calling (650) 725-2504.
