Beverly Lou (Huot) Slaght

The family of Beverly Lou (Huot) Slaght lost a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend following a fatal car crash a little over one year ago, on Jan. 31, 2014.

She was 82 years old, born November 10, 1931, in Lansing, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60-plus years, Alvin E. Slaght, a great-grandfather, grandfather, father and friend, who lost his battle with dementia on May 4, 2011 (his 82nd birthday).

The couple was married on Dec. 9, 1950.

In 1959, Beverly and Alvin moved to Lompoc (Santa Barbara County) with two young sons in tow, Kevin and Kristopher. Kurtis and Konrad came along in 1960 and 1962.

In 1987, Al retired after 31 years with ITT, working at Vandenburg Air Force Base. The couple then moved to Mariposa from Lompoc, after raising their four sons.

Over the years, Beverly and Al explored all of Mariposa County and most of Madera County. They had many hobbies and interests, including motorcycles, hunting (both rifle and bow and arrow), fishing, SCUBA diving, gold prospecting, panning, dredging and even tried their hands at “hard rocking.” Their favorite leisure time was spent flying their own private aircraft.

She survived by her sons, Kevin Slaght (Janet), of Vinton, Va., Kristopher of Paso Robles, Kurtis of Mariposa and Konrad (Christine) of Santa Maria. She is also survived by her grandsons Kyle, Weston and Nicholas Slaght, by her granddaughter Marlo Kozlowski and two great-granddaughters, Kayla and Ava—all of California.

“We will always miss you both,” Beverly and Al’s family said.
