County links remain snarled

Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 - 12:30 p.m. - Phone and Internet service remained spotty across the county today, multiple sources report.

As of 8:30 a.m. today, emergency calls to the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office were still being routed through Yosemite National Park, Undersheriff Brian Robles said.

Before noon, engineers at Sierra Telephone were working to determine the cause of issues with phone and Internet service, the company's Dan Rule said.

"At this time, we don't think they're related," Rule said.

Throughout the morning, Internet service at the MARIPOSA GAZETTE was coming up and going down. Multiple callers to the paper reported the same.

According to a report from Fresno television station KMPH Fox 26 on Wednesday, this week's snafu started when a construction crew mistakenly cut a fiber-optic cable in Madera County yesterday.

KMPH 26 is an official news partner of the MARIPOSA GAZETTE.
