Edna B. Koch

Edna B. Koch, a former long-time resident of Mariposa, was born April 27, 1916 in Titusville, Pa. to Herbert and Daisy Bartholomew. She passed away Jan. 4, 2015 in Puyallup, Wash. with her family at her side.

Edna moved from Pennsylvania to the Los Angeles area in 1922 when she was six years old. She graduated from Compton High School, then went on to business school, and was later employed by the Petroleum Equipment Company as a bookkeeper.

She married Frank Koch in 1939, and they moved to Mariposa in 1946, where they built their home. Edna was involved in 4-H for several years as a leader, was involved in the Mariposa County Farm Bureau and the PTA and was a Sunday school teacher.

Edna and Frank sold their ranch in Mariposa in 1988 and moved to Winston, Ore. due to health reasons. After Frank passed away, Edna moved to Puyallup, Wash. in 1990 to be with her daughter and family. She spent many hours knitting hats, which she donated to the homeless, and booties for newborn babies in the Puyallup area.

Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and her daughter, Shirley Matlock. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Robert) Hooker of Puyallup, Wash., grandson Rob (Cindy) Malland of Bonney Lake, Wash., granddaughters Melissa Hooker of Puyallup, Wash., Janelle (Terry) Hellene of Auburn, Wash., Lindsey Phelps of SeaTac, Wash., and Jeniffer (Corey) Bloom of Roseville, Calif. She is also survived by three great-grandsons, Brian of Puyallup, Wash., Christian and Noah of SeaTac, Wash., and two great-granddaughers, Samantha and Sadera of Auburn, Wash.

A viewing was held on Friday, Jan. 9 at Curnow Funeral Home in Sumner, Wash. Graveside services and interment will take place at Roseburg Memorial Gardens in Roseburg, Ore. on Thursday, Jan. 15.
