In foul drought sign, Badger Pass closes

"We plan on re-opening as soon as we receive the appropriate amount of snow," a report posted by Park concessioner Delaware North Companies said today.

Also today, the Park said its Crane Flat Snow Play Area had closed due to "an increased hazard to visitor safety."

On Jan. 15, a long-term precipitation forecast issued by the National Weather Service saw lower-than-normal rain likely for the area over the next two months.

The county received its last significant rain and snow on Dec. 17, when .45 inches of rain fell in Mariposa.

Read the Thursday, Jan. 29 MARIPOSA GAZETTE for more on the area's unfortunate dry spell.
