Propane truck driver escapes rollover

Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015 - 2:45 p.m. - The driver of a Kamps Propane delivery truck narrowly escaped injury when his truck rolled off West Whitlock Road on Tuesday, a report released by Mariposa's CHP office said today.

Witness Nick Nasarow, who serves with the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office's SCOPE volunteer group, expressed surprise that the driver emerged unscathed, his wife Kitty Nasarow related.

"He said it rolled down the bank at least twice, and it was a miracle the driver didn't get hurt," Kitty Nasarow said today.

According to a CHP report, Kamps driver Scott Oehlschlaeger was heading east on West Whitlock Road around noon when the incident occured. Near Old Emerson Road, Oehlschlaeger hugged the far right of the road to let another vehicle pass. The truck slipped off the roadway, and slid about 30 feet down the embankment.

Mariposa County Fire Department personnel arrived along with CHP units, and determined that no propane was leaking from the vehicle.

It took emergency crews about two-and-a-half hours to right the truck and return it to the roadway, the CHP report said.
