'Series of storms' may push through area

Image: National Weather ServiceImage: National Weather ServiceWednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 - 2 p.m. - A "series of storms" are forecast to move over the county between Saturday and Wednesday, bringing as much as three inches of rain to the foothills and "a few feet" of snow to the higher Sierra, the National Weather Service said today.

While some forecasts mention the likelihood of several inches of rain from the storms, a computer-generated precipitation map issued today sees just .78 inches of rain falling in Mariposa through Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Forecasts frequently lowball rain totals for the county, however. Before last weekend's storms, a similar projection saw about a third of an inch falling in town.

Almost double that, or .58 inches, was recorded by the storms' end however.

As of Wednesday, rain was scheduled to begin spreading south on Saturday, with additional pulses sweeping over the county by Wedesday. Snow levels were expected to start near 9,000 feet, later falling to near 5,000 feet.
