Ozella Roach

Ozella Roach of Merced passed away Nov. 8, 2014, at home with her family present. She was 90 years old.

Ozella was born on Sept. 12, 1924 in Ballinger, Texas. Soon after, her family moved to Oklahoma, where she grew up.

She married Arthur Roach in 1947 and moved to Los Angeles. In 1963 they moved to Mariposa, where they built the Crystal Aire Convalescent Hospital and operated it for seven years. During that time they attended and were members of the First Baptist Church of Mariposa.

They moved to Merced in 1970, where Arthur started a contracting business and Ozella did all the bookkeeping until they retired in 1986. Arthur and Ozella then enjoyed traveling, researching their families’ genealogy, going to doll shows for Ozella’s doll collecting and spending time with family.

Ozella was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Arthur in 1993. She was also preceded by an infant daughter, her parents and siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Jeannie) Roach of Mariposa and Jim (Marsha) Roach of Merced; stepson Arthur Leroy Roach; granddaughters Lisa (Mark) Woods and Cathy (Che) Robbins; great-grandchildren Courtney Woods, Brooke Robbins and Austin Robbins, all of Mariposa, and three step-grandchildren.

A chapel service will be held at 10 a.m. today, on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, 901 W. Main Street in Merced. Pastor Andy Doss will officiate.
