Judi Ann Weaser

Judi Ann Weaser was born on Aug. 19, 1959 in Long Beach to Albert and Betty Weaser. She passed away on Oct. 21, 2014 in Mariposa at the age of 55.

Judi was a resident of Mariposa for the last 10 years and previously lived in Merced. She received a bachelor’s degree in zoology and a master’s degree in community development at UC Davis.

She was a returned Peace Corps volunteer in Belize, Central America. Judi met her husband, Barry Hadsell, in Belize when both were Peace Corps volunteers. She worked with a nonprofit organization teaching teachers and kids how to care for the country’s barrier reef and the environment in general.

Judi loved to travel. Early in her career with the National Park Service, she worked seasonal jobs, spending half her time working and the other half traveling in the U.S., Africa, Australia, Central and South America. During her time in the Peace Corps, Judy and her husband, Barry, traveled extensively in Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.

She loved her 20-pound rescue Manx cat, Perdido. His nickname is Perdie Man which is Spanish/Belizean for “Lost Boy.”

Judi is preceded in death by her mother Betty Stewart, grandmother Helen Stewart and twin sister Jo Weaser. She is survived by her husband Barry Hadsell, father Albert Weaser, brother Guy Weaser and his children Monica and Trevor Weaser and brother-in-law Steve Johns.

A memorial service will be held this Friday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. at the El Portal Community Hall on Foresta Road across from the post office.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, Judi requested donation go to the SCPA of Mariposa County, PO Box 671, Mariposa, CA 95338.

Arrangements are under the direction of Whitton Family Funeral Service in Merced.
