Hunter passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 30,

2014 at the age of 77.

Jerry was born in Leadville, Colo. to Harry Hunter Jr. and Laretha Goss Hunter. He had two brothers to welcome him, Fred Harry and Robert Leroy. When Jerry was four years old his family moved to El Cerrito, Calif. When he was eight years old, his parents divorced. His mother remarried and had twin daughters, Laretha and Lapreal.

Jerry met the love of his life, Dolores Finch, from Mariposa and was married at 18. His mother, father brothers and one sister, Lapreal, all preceded him in death.

Jerry had a quadruple bypass and one valve replacement in September of 2013. Jerry’s first heart attack was when he worked in Salt Lake City at the Chevron Refinery after acid splashed on him.

Jerry joined the U.S. Navy when still in high school as a Seabee. Through the years, Jerry worked at Montgomery Ward, he owned and operated a Union 76 gas station and worked 30 years at the Chevron refinery.

After retirement, his family moved to Mariposa and built its home on property that has been in the family since 1852. Jerry then became a rancher and worked part time for Foster True Value.

All of us will miss this wonderful man so much.

Funeral services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church on Highway 49 North from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, Oct. 11.
