Details on pilot are released

Photo: CAL FIREPhoto: CAL FIREThursday, Oct. 9, 2014 - 10 a.m. - CAL FIRE's Sacramento office has released information on Geoffrey "Craig" Hunt, who died on Tuesday when his aircraft crashed while fighting the Dog Rock Fire in Yosemite.

Hunt was born on Oct. 14, 1951 in Richmond, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Sally, and at least one daughter, Sarah Hunt Lauterbach.

Hunt resided in San Jose.

He served as a U.S. Navy P3 pilot from 1975-84 and was in the reserves for 20 years. He earned a Master's in Business from USC and a Master's in Biochemistry from UC Santa Cruz.

Hunt loved flying, golfing, fishing, hiking, bird watching, scuba diving and dogs.

"My dad died a hero," daughter Sarah Hunt Lauterbach said this week. "There was not a day that went by that I didn't talk to my dad.  He was my best friend."
