Officials urge deer-season caution

Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 - 11:15 a.m. - U.S. Forest Service officials have urged both hunters and the general public to exercise caution during this season's deer hunt, which runs through Nov. 2.

The season opened on Saturday, Sept. 20.

"All visitors should consider wearing bright colors to make their presence clear," a statement released by Stanislaus National Forest spokesperson Rebecca Garcia said. "All individuals in a hunting party must wear daylight fluorescent orange at all times."

Hunters are also reminded that 175,000 acres of forest remain closed in the aftermath of 2013's Rim Fire. Consequently, the quota of deer to be taken in state hunting area D-6, which includes all of Mariposa County and parts of adjacent counties, has been reduced from 10,000 to 6,000.
