Firefighters control Moccasin Fire

Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 - 9:45 a.m. - Firefighters have gained an upper hand on the Moccasin Fire, which has charred at least 40 acres north of Coulterville since it flared around noon on Thursday.

As of this morning, the fire was 50 percent contained, Fire Captain Nicole Gissell of CAL FIRE's Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit said.

The fire is located off Jacksonville Road near the shore of Lake Don Pedro in Tuolumne County.

Units will remain on scene today, but they are "just mopping up and patrolling," Gissell said this morning.
