The report states the fire, which started around 2:20 p.m. Friday afternoon under the William Sell Bridge that spans the Chowchilla River on Highway 49 South, threatens 700 homes and all of Ponderosa Basin remains under an evacuation order.

No structures have been reported lost and the fire has consumed approximately 300 acres.

A report released by Karen Guillemin, CAL FIRE spokesperson, says

Fire burning at a moderate rate of spread. There continues to be a threat to the Ponderosa Basin community. Access to the fire is difficult due to steep terrain. Firefighters are experiencing extreme fire behavior conditions due to drought and low fuel moisture. "

Highway 49 South has one lane open as of last night and residents are asked to avoid the area to allow for free movement of firefighting equipment.

Look for further up dates as they become available.
