CAL FIRE: Make Labor Day fire safe

Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 - 1:45 p.m. - Mariposa County's CAL FIRE unit today asked residents to exercise extreme fire caution this Labor Day weekend.

Due to extreme fire conditions, some recreation areas may be closed to visitors and campers. While making Labor Day plans, the agency suggests residents contact their destination directly to obtain current information on closures and fire restrictions.

Campers and visitors should make sure vehicles are properly maintained before they depart. Motorists should remember to check their tire pressure and exhaust system. Dragging tow chains will throw sparks, so motorists need to make sure they have the correct size trailer ball-and-hitch, and that the chains are adjusted to the proper length.

The statewide burn ban continues to be in effect for all statewide responsibility areas. Permission for all residential “dooryard” burning, forest management, hazard reduction, and other industrial-type burning is suspended until further notice.
