Mankins is traded to Tampa Bay

Tuesday, August 26, 2014 - 11:34 a.m. -The New England Patriots have traded six-time Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins of Cathey's Valley to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for tight end Tim Wright and an undisclosed draft pick.

The Buccaneers announced the deal Tuesday afternoon. The draft pick dealt to New England is a fourth-round selection in 2015, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Mankins has spent his entire nine-year career with the Patriots and has been New England's most consistent lineman in front of star quarterback Tom Brady.

The 32-year-old Mankins should provide immediate stability to the Buccaneers' shaky offensive line, which has been short-handed at guard following Tampa Bay's injury settlement with veteran Carl Nicks.

Mankins' primary position with the Patriots had been at left guard -- where Jamon Meredith is slated to start for the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay has been more unsettled at right guard, where Oniel Cousins and Patrick Omameh have been vying for the starting job.
