Local man killed in crash

Wednesday, August 27, 2014 - 9:05 a.m. - A local man, Steve Thompson, 63, of Mariposa was killed in a fatal accident late Tuesday afternoon on Highway 49 South, just a mile south of town.

According to the CHP report, Thompson was traveling at a high rate of speed in his Nissan pick-up when he lost control of the vehicle, rolled several times, and plunged over the embankment to the bottom of Mariposa Creek.

The report also states that alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The collision remains under investigation.Emergency personnel respond to the accident on Highway 49 South late Tuesday afternoon.
