Highway 140 delays to continue through Friday

Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 - 12:30 p.m. - Road work will continue to add delays to vehicle trips passing the South Fork of the Merced River along Highway 140 through Friday, Aug. 15, a Caltrans spokesperson said this week.

Motorists should expect 10-minute delays between the hours of 6 a.m. through 7 p.m., a Caltrans statement said.

The work is taking place between the Sweetwater Creek Bridge and the highway bridge that crosses the South Fork of the Merced River. The week-long project is installing plastic liners designed to extend the life of highway drainage pipes in the area, Caltrans spokesperson Angela DaPrato said.

The current delay is in addition to the long-term, one-way detour that now takes traffic through the Ferguson Slide zone west of El Portal.
