El Portal Fire is 34 percent contained

Wednesday, July 30, 2014 - 9:30 a.m. - Firefighters report that the El Portal Fire is 34 percent contained, with a total of 3,545 acres consumed by the blaze.

Structure-protection teams remain stationed at Foresta, but the fire's most active zone is its northern and northeastern flank, the fire information team reports. 

"Fire officials do remain concerned over the fire's growth" in these areas, the most recent report said.

Meanwhile, Yosemite Superintendent Don Neubacher and fire Incident Commander Carlton Joseph were scheduled to meet today to discuss a timetable for reopening Big Oak Flat Road, which connects the Park to Highway 120.
