Vehicle fire on Highway 49 North totals truck

(Greg Knight | The GAZETTE)Thursday, July 17, 2014 - 12 p.m. - Firefighters from CAL FIRE and the Mariposa County Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the southbound lane of Highway 49 North, near the county landfill on Thursday, July 17. 

According to deputy fire chief Jim Middleton, the fire started in the engine compantment of the Dodge pickup and was contained to the engine, with minor smoke damage to the cab of the vehicle. 

The driver, who was headed into Mariposa from Bear Valley, was uninjured.
