Tourism bureau to mull county offer

Friday, July 11, 2014 - 2:45 p.m. - The Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau Board of Directors is set to meet at 1 p.m. on Monday to consider a July 8 county proposal that would raise the countywide transient occupancy tax, or TOT, to 11.25 percent.

As stated by tourism bureau representatives on July 8, the bureau prefers a county bed-tax hike to 11 percent because it would leave room for the bureau to raise its own special assessment on tourists by a full one percent.

According to the bureau's meeting announcement, bureau board members will meet to "determine a formal response to the board of supervisors’ decision to increase TOT by 1.25 percent with the expectation that the Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau would assume financial responsibility of the Visitor Centers in Mariposa and Coulterville."

Monday's meeting is open to the public, and starts at 1 p.m. in the Miners Inn Conference Room at 5181 Highway 49 North in Mariposa.
