Humidity lays wet blanket over area

Monday, July 14, 2014 - 3:45 p.m. - A plume of subtropical moisture was sending unusually humid air over the county today, enhancing discomfort associated with already warm temperatures. By 3:30 p.m., lightning and thunderstorms were affecting areas near the Sierra crest.

By Thursday, changing winds will direct soggy air away from the area, the National Weather Service said. The forecast Mariposa highs for Wednesday through Friday are just 92 degrees. Today's high, by contrast, was 100 degrees in town.

Just how muggy Mariposa's air is depends on the time of day. At 5 a.m. on Monday, local air reached 52 percent in relative humidity. By 2 p.m., the number had fallen to 24 percent, Mariposa's automated weather station recorded.
