Fire acreage total is downgraded

Friday, July 11, 2014 - 9:45 a.m. - Thursday's Bridgeport Fire between Agua Fria and Buckeye creeks off Old Highway charred 4.7 acres, a revised measurement has found. No structures were lost in the incident.

Loss was averted by a combination of brush-clearing by homeowners and a rapid response by CAL FIRE and Mariposa County Fire Department crews, CAL FIRE spokesperson Karen Guillemin said.

"We caught it real quick," Guillemin said.

The fire apparently ignited just off property owned by Pioneer Market pharmacist Carl Wood and wife Sharon.

Early drops by a pair of Grumman  bombers helped firefighters gain the upper hand. A pair of helicopters wielding water buckets later joined the fight.
