Thomas Cluff Pimentel

Thomas Cluff Pimentel tragically passed away in an automobile accident on Jan. 17, 2014, he was 63. Born in San Francisco on Oct. 3, 1950 to Frank and Geraldine Pimentel, Tom grew up in Los Angeles. He attended Los Angeles High School and then began his college education at Humboldt State University ultimately graduating from Cal State Fresno with a degree in criminal justice.

In 1968 he moved to Yosemite and began his career with the federal government as a firefighter. Throughout his 30 years with the National Park Service, he worked as a Park Ranger and dispatcher, and recently retired from the Park’s administration division in 2010.

After Tom retired, he devoted most of his time to his three grandkids and took them on countless adventures from Yosemite to New York City. He excelled in his role as “Bomps,” and left his family with countless great memories and photos.

Tom was active with Mariposa's online radio KRYS, was an avid photographer and loved to fish, kayak and go to the movies. He was a true, genuine friend to anyone who got to know him and he was always willing to lend a hand with no strings attached.

Tom is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Nancy Pimentel, stepchildren Aaron (Flora) Savage and Hannah (Jesse) Fouch, grandkids Jensen, Gus and Poppy, sister Rona (Dick) Dorn, and nieces Kristen, Kelly, Amy and Sarah.

His loss was sudden and he will be greatly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 14th at The Alley in downtown Mariposa, and all friends are welcome to stop by.

Tom was my 2nd cousin - we knew each other as kids. I remember, and am grateful, for the hospitality of his family at their home in Los Angeles. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I would like to be in touch with his sister and brother-in-law, Rona and Dick. My condolences to Tom's family.
