Long to meet Casto in November runoff event

Friday, June 6, 2014 - 3 p.m. - Updated results released today indicate that District 3 board of supervisors candidates Marshall Long and Kris Casto will meet in a Nov. 4 runoff. Long's final vote tally ended up at 49.83 percent, just short of the 50 percent plus one vote needed to avoid a runoff.

Kris Casto's final result was 27.76 percent.

While precinct results were released on June 3, county elections office staff worked several more days to count remaining vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.

Technically, today's results are "unofficial final" results. When several additional procedures are completed, county Registrar of Voters Keith Williams will certify the election and the results will be final.

Asked on June 4 how he felt about a possible runoff, Long responded simply, "I'm ready."

The runoff will take place along with the Nov. 4 general election, which includes the California governor's race.
