Long awaits final election tally

Smallcombe and Crafts win outright
By Erik Skindrud | GAZETTE EDITOR

Wednesday, June 4, 2014 - 10:15 a.m. - A total of 160 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots that could affect the outcome of the race in District 3 remain to be counted, and could lift Marshall Long over the 50-percent hurdle. Final results are expected by Friday.

Following Long's 49.48 percent, with all precincts reporting, was Kris Casto with 28.63 percent of the vote. Ronika Johnson posted a 15.64 result.

If Long emerges with 50-plus percent of the vote, he will avoid a November runoff with second-place finisher Casto.

In District 1, Rosemarie Smallcombe carried the election with 59.38 percent of the vote. Karen Smith had 23.21 percent. Brad Aborn took 17.41 percent of the vote.

In the Mariposa County Assessor-Recorder race, incumbant Becky Crafts brought home 70.9 percent of the vote. Neil Stonum grabbed 29.1 percent.

The GAZETTE will present a complete election report in this week's June 5 Thursday paper, and online as results become available.
