Hunters Fire containment expected on Monday

By Erik Skindrud | GAZETTE EDITOR

Monday, June 2, 2014 - 9 a.m. - The Hunters Fire, which ignited one week ago on May 26, is today expected to be fully contained, CAL FIRE spokesperson Sharon Craig said.

As of Monday morning, the fire was fully surrounded by a fire-line perimeter, Craig said. With hot spots still flaring inside the perimeter, the fire was said to be 95 percent contained, the spokesperson added.

At its height, more than 800 firefighters and multiple helicopters and aircraft were battling the blaze. Today that number was down to 84 personnel--all from the local CAL FIRE unit, Craig said.

"Everything's cooling down," Craig said this morning. "We're so happy to report that."
