Sunday, May 18, 2014 - 9:15 a.m. - The Lady Grizzlies' softball team took the Sac-Joaquin Division VI title on Saturday, May 17 after rallying for a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over Delhi's Lady Hawks at the Arnaiz Softball Complex.

Going into the fourth inning the teams were tied at a run apiece, though Delhi was able to capitalize offensively by sending two runners in for a 3-1 lead.

A three-run fifth inning for Mariposa, with RBIs coming from seniors Shea Williams and Genevieve Kelsey, sealed the deal for the Lady Grizzlies. Williams, along with Claire Bullis, Nellie Tucker, and pitcher Leah Lafata, scored runs in the game.

The win gives Mariposa its second championship in the past three seasons.

Lafata, a freshman, pitched all seven innings for the win and, according to head coach Tony Williams, did not leave the game even after pulling a muscle in her back during early innings. She logged a stellar 1.0 ERA and allowed only four hits.

The win over Delhi came just hours after Mariposa dispatched Rio Vista, 13-0, for the trip to the championship round.
