(Carol Hart | CONTRIBUTED)Friday, May 16, 2014 - 9:30 a.m. - The Grizzlies' baseball squad held off a sixth inning rally by the Forest Lake Christian Falcons to win the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 6 playoffs on a 3-2 squeaker of a win at Stagg High School in Stockton.

The Griz were able to take the win with only one hit, a Bodie Vegely drive to right field, in the first inning—though a slump in the pitching department of the Falcons for a spate of walks, and a set of steals, allowed Jadin Battles and Brandon Knauf find their way home in the second for a 2-0 lead.

Tristan Mero had the same experience in the third for a 3-1 lead, though Forest Lake battled back for a trip around the diamond in the sixth to threaten with a tying run. Griz pitcher Noah Fluharty held firm, however, retiring the final three Falcon batters for the win.

Mariposa County will now face top-seed Bradshaw Christian tomorrow at Stagg in the first of a three-game series that will determine a trip to the section championship on May 26.
