Burn piles are off table through weekend

Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 9 a.m. - CAL FIRE said today that a countywide no-burn rule will remain in effect through the weekend due to a combination of high temperatures and low humidity.

"Due to current conditions, we're going to shut (hazard-reduction burning) off at least through Monday (May 19)," Division Chief Rich Drozen of CAL FIRE said.

Before today, burning by propertyowners was permitted above 2,000 feet in elevation, because vegetation has a higher moisture content above that level.

Residents and propertyowners can call the Mariposa County Burn Day Information Line at 966-1200 to check on each day's burn policy.
