Rapid warmup on tap for county

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - 9 a.m. - An upper-ridge pattern is forecast to boost temperatures past 90 degrees by this Thursday, forecasters say. The heat wave will be short-lived, however, with forecast highs falling to 80 degrees on Saturday.

Thursday will be the hottest day of the week, with the Mariposa mercury expected to touch 92 degrees.

Of more concern to firefighters, this week's warmup will be accompanied by low humidity, with relative humidy numbers plunging into the single digits in some areas.

By Friday, a storm system approaching the Pacific Northwest is expected to send area temperatures to lower levels. No precipitation is expected in the county, however.

This week's heat wave is expected to send Thursday temperatures to 104 degrees in Fresno. Thursday's high in Mariposa is expected to be 92 degrees, however.
