(Tom Medema | Contributed)Thursday, May 1, 2014 - 1:45 p.m. - With a road win over the Ripon Christian Lady Knights on Wednesday, April 30, the Lady Grizzly soccer squad could have asserted dominance with an outright Southern Athletic League championship.

Instead, thanks to a 3-1 loss, Mariposa will now share that crown with Ripon Christian as the playoff picture emerges in the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Senior Kayla Gilgo saved some face for Mariposa at 11 minutes into the second half of the game when she found the back of the net for the squad’s only goal. It was academic by that point, however, as the Lady Knights were already up by two.

Although the Lady Griz rallied offensively in an attempt to tie the game—and take the league championship on the strength of the team’s 15-1-1 record—it was not to be as Ripon scored the third and final goal with mere seconds left in the game.
