(Mariposa County Sheriff's Office | CONTRIBUTED)(Mariposa County Sheriff's Office | CONTRIBUTED)Friday, May 2, 2014 - 1:45 p.m. - Rescuers have located 78-year-old Folker "Karl" Sehmsdorf after the man spent close to three days wandering a remote area of the county.

He was evacuated by helicopter to a Modesto hospital around 12:40 p.m. today, Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies said.

Sehmsdorf, who is affected by memory issues, was located by search-and-rescue personnel before 11 a.m. today about a mile north of Highway 49 South.

"This is a great ending, especially for the duration he was out there," Binnewies said. "We're very appreciative of all the search teams' efforts."

Sehmsdorf walked away from his home near Watt and Kemble roads off Highway 49 South on Tuesday.

Read the MARIPOSA GAZETTE on Thursday, May 8 for more on Sehmsdorf's ordeal and rescue.
