Butterfly Festival lands in town

Friday, May 2, 2014 - 11:40 a.m. - The annual Mariposa Butterfly Festival launched today with a flurry of butterfly releases by schoolchildren along Mariposa Creek. Additional releases--and events--continue through Sunday.

Residents and visitors can sample local restaurant dishes at the Taste of Mariposa at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. 

Saturday's highlight is The Winged Wonder Butterfly Festival Parade. Rep. Tom McClintock is scheduled to ride in the procession and speak in Mariposa Art Park after. The parade starts at 11 a.m. 

Saturday afternoon entertainment will take place across town with more butterfly releases and other events for children and adults.

Sunday kicks off with a free breakfast with inspirational music starting at 10 a.m.
