OffenderWatch is new sex offender search tool

By Greg Knight | Associate Editor

Thursday, April 30, 2014 - 10:20 a.m. - Residents in Mariposa County now have one more weapon in their arsenal to protect themselves and their families from sex offenders and predators residing in the county.

To that end, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has launched a new sex offender registration and public notification Web site called Offender Watch.

With the new system, local law enforcement is now part of a nationwide network of more than 5,000 law enforcement agencies monitoring the registration and location of offenders.

Through the new site, citizens are able to search for potentially dangerous sex offenders and predators living near their homes, places of work, schools, churches and day-care centers.

To access the database, go to the sheriff’s office Web site at www.mariposacounty.org/sheriff and click on the “Sex Offenders Search” icon.
