Crews continue Tioga Road plowing

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 - 8:45 a.m. - Crews were scheduled to continue plowing Tioga Road this week, with low-snow conditions speeding progress. No projected opening date has been announced.

One sign suggests Tioga Road could open soon, however. On Friday, April 18, Caltrans crews working in Tuolumne County opened State Route 108, which crosses the Sierra at Sonora Pass.

Low-snow conditions along Tioga Road have reduced the avalanche danger to crews working this year, a statement posted by Yosemite National Park last week said.

National Weather Service forecasters were expecting some snow on Friday, April 25, a factor that could slow progress on opening Tioga Road.

Trout fishing season on the eastern Sierra opens on Saturday, April 26, a Caltrans press release noted.
