Daylight burglars strike two homes

Friday, April 11, 2014 - 9:05 a.m. - Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies is alerting the community to be watchful for daylight burglaries of residences.

This morning the sheriff released the following statement:

"Yesterday, Thursday, April 10, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office initiated investigations into two  residential home burglaries, both occurring in Mariposa County.  One occurred in the Italian Creek Road area and the second in the Ponderosa Basin community.  Both burglaries occurred during the daylight “business hours” yesterday while homeowners were away from their residences.  The M.O. of both burglaries are similar where a suspect entered through an unlocked window and used pillow cases to collect valuables and firearms.

We are hoping to alert our communities to this activity so all can keep their eye out for anything suspicious.  Such activity should include watching out for solicitors and other persons that are approaching residences; such as deliveries or mobile services."

Residence should contact the sheriff's office is they observe any sort of suspicious activity at 966-3615.
